У даній статті вивчаються культурно-специфічні особливості виконання мовленнєвого акту “привітання” українцями та американцями у неформальній ситуації між незнайомцями. Оскільки провідною тезою нашого дослідження є те, що мовленнєва поведінка людей напряму пов'язана з культурним середовищем, з якого вони походять, у даній статті також вивчаються культурні моделі українського та американського суспільств. This article examines culture-specific differences in the way representatives of American and Ukrainian societies, native speakers of their respective languages, use the language when they perform the speech act of greeting in interactions with strangers in an informal setting. The communication behavior of both groups of respondents is analyzed within the models of their respective cultures. In order to study the differences between Ukrainian and American verbal behaviour during performance of greetings in interactions with strangers in an informal setting, cultural models of the two societies under analysis are studied based on the models of cultural variability introduced by Geert Hofstede and Edward Hall. The American model of culture used in the present research was described by the aforementioned scholars, whereas the Ukrainian model of culture had to be created by the author of the present research. Our study is based on empirical data collected with the help of a questionnaire. It comes from Ukrainian and American respondents that are native speakers of their respective languages and represent different social and age groups as well as different professions and live in different places in Ukraine and the USA. The speech act of greeting is defined as an illocutionary act whose illocutionary force depends on the type of greeting formulas and greeting patterns used to perform the researched speech act. Thus, American and Ukrainian verbal reactions were analyzed and compared in terms of greeting formulas and patterns. To detect the differences between them both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Key words: models of culture, speech acts, greetings, greeting formulas, illocutionary force.
Celem niniejszego artykułu było zbadanie kulturowego zróżnicowania „skargi jako aktu mowy” realizowanego przez rodzimych użytkowników języka ukraińskiego oraz amerykańskiej odmiany języka angielskiego. Komunikacyjne zachowania obydwu grup respondentów zostało zanalizowane w kontekście kultury ukraińskiej i amerykańskiej ujętych w modele kulturowe, które również są przedstawione w artykule. Badanie opiera się na danych empirycznych zebranych przy pomocy sporządzonych w tym celu kwestionariuszy. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły związek pomiędzy realizacją leksykalno-syntaktyczną aktu mowy skarga a kulturą narodową respondentów.

The communication behavior of both groups of respondents is analyzed within the models of their respective cultures, which are also presented in the article. The research is based on empirical data collected with the help of a questionnaire. The obtained findings confirmed the relationship between the lexico-syntactic realization of the speech act of complaint and the respondents’ national cultures.

Вивчаються культурні відмінності вербальної поведінки американців та українців, носіїв своїх рідних мов, при виконанні акту мови "побажання". Комунікативна поведінка обидвох груп респондентів розглядається в рамках їх моделей культур, які наводяться у цій роботі. Дослідження грунтується на емпіричних даних, зібраних за допомогою методу анкетування, які проаналізовано та прокласифікавоно на двох рівнях: ситуаційному та лексико-семантичному.
This article examines culture-specific differences in the ways representatives of American and Ukrainian societies, native speakers of their respective languages, use the address forms in face-to-face interactions. It discusses cultural models of the USA and Ukraine and investigates how they manifest themselves in the use of the forms of address by the interlocutors, the users of their respective cultures, within asymmetrical and symmetrical relations in different domains of social reality, such as family, workplace, education, army and service relationship, based on participant observation and survey.
Ця стаття вивчає культурні відмінності у вживанні форм звертання представниками українського та американського суспільств у прямих інтеракціях. У статті наводяться моделі культури США та України і показується, як вони проявляються у вживанні форм звертання вихідцями з даних культур у симетричних та асиметричних відносинах у різних сферах соціальної реальності, таких як сім'я, робота, освіта, армія, сфера послуг. У дослідженні застосовано методи спостереження та анкетування.
